I don’t think that anyone can have recovery without some spiritual enlightenment. I am not saying that it is as easy as a night time prayer. I am saying that when a person recovers from alcoholism, they do feel a sense of spiritual freedom. And they do recover. Don’t believe for one minute that you will have to fight the urges to drink for the rest of your life. You are bigger than that. Much more than others would have you believe. Just because most people are in agreement with the norm, you don’t have to be. You can make your own rules to follow. You have that right to your own sanity, happiness and power. You give that to yourself, and you can take it away as well. I know its not a popular thing to say, but I say that with all the conviction in my heart, because I see it; everyday. I guess that recovery; is of ones’ self.

I agree with you. Recovery is whatever it takes to keep you from drinking or getting high for another day! In my recovery I thought it was religion that I needed but it’s not it is spirituality that I am looking for. Couldn’t have made to the road of recovery without a Higher Power working in my life!
