2000 years ago Ancient Warlords lived to 70!
May 19th, 2008 by brad whisnantWith the average life expectancy around 77 years of age today, how is that ancient Chinese Warlords 2000 years ago lived to be 70 years old? and why does all this concern the individual in recovery?
How is it that the Ancient Chinese Warlords lived to 70 years old, when at that time, the average of life expectancy was only about 25? Why is today, we barely live longer? The answer can be found in our health-care system and how we view health. If we see how we view health, then that can help us see how to treat and view the individual in recovery, and more importantly, while in recovery you can see how to treat yourself.
The following is not to say, that one medicine is better than another. It is merely to show where each medicine has its strength. Where each medicine can contribute to the overall health of the individual. The important thing with medicine is to help the patient, not espouse our dogma about which medicine one should take. I merely offer a “choice”. A “choice” that for a long time has not been offered in the “West”.
In my personal view, Western medicine has never been about health. It is about diagnosis and treatment of serious diseases, things that can kill you. It is an emergency medicine. Western medicine is an amazing medicine it is just different than Chinese medicine. Western medicine is dedicated to trauma, emergencies, and surgery. Western Medicine saves lives in dangerous situations. Chinese medicine on the other hand developed over 4000 years ago from the Warlords (who ruled the country). The warlords found the best doctors to help the then live long, have more energy, virility, fertility, wellness, longevity and health. The wanted to live each day the healthiest they could live. This is how Chinese medicine developed, hence people say its a “wellness medicine, not an emergency medicine”.
So what did the Warlords want? Well at the time, in Europe (the roots of Western medicine) was “Help me I’m dying!” In China the warlords were saying “help me! i want to live with more healthy, my women need to be more fertile, my people need to be stronger, and army have to have more energy!” This is where Chinese Medicine came from.
So why and how does help the person in recovery? Well, if we took a person into recovery to a western doctor, they would run tests. The tests would most likely come back negative, Why? Because the person isn’t dying! They are sick, they are unhealthy, they are sad, they are tired but they are not dying. The Western tests would come back negative. Chinese medicine can help because with recovery, its not an emergency. Certainty and acute withdrawal is an emergency and you would need western intervention, but after that, the day in, day out, the cravings, the depression, the mental swings, the confusion, the lethargy, the aches and pains, are part of a person being healthy. Its a part of “wellness” and that is why Chinese medicine was invented.
Surgeries? antibiotics? vaccinations? you would need to go see a Western doctor? But that a person in recovery needs a medicine that deals with improving the health in their daily life. They need help in not only removing death and disease, but improving overall daily vigor, energy, and wellness.
When used in conjunction with other modalities Chinese medicine can be an integral part of healing and becoming “well again” while in recovery. It can put the “wellness and health” back in your life, not just remove the “disease and death”. When you are in recovery there is no reason that one should have to have a life with sickness and lethargy, be well and live now.
