Shame from the past throws a shadow across today’s sun. This signals a time when the shame lived with for so long can be understood and healed, dissolved into memories and pictures that belong only to the past.
Facing both known and secret fears is an essential part of healing the shame that has bound us to our past.

Today I left work early and decided I would take it easy. I stopped by and talked to one of my favorite people for about an hour and at the end of our conversation she said, “be gentle with yourself.” I was thinking about going home and going for a run in spite of the fact that it was 94 degrees. So as I was driving, I was thinking about what she had said, “be gentle” so I thought, “o.k. I’ll go for walk instead.”
I changed clothes and started on …

It’s summer! Let’s escape outside and see abundance! Let’s stroll down the street to see our neighbor’s garden. Let’s pack up an evening meal and head to Golden Gardens for a picnic dinner out.
Let’s park a block away from our appointment–just tofeel the sun warming on our backs.
OPPS, movement is happening!
Dare I say . . . exercise?
Exercise not only helps our physical bodies in terms of preventing weight gain, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, it also prevents depression and helps treat anxiety. Moving our bodies is an investment. The …

Raising questions, finding answers
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness characterized by pervasive instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior. This instability often disrupts family and work life, long-term planning, and the individual’s sense of self-identity. Originally thought to be at the “borderline” of psychosis, people with BPD suffer from a disorder of emotion regulation. While less well known than schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness), BPD is more common, affecting 2 percent of adults, mostly young women.1 There is a high rate of self-injury without suicide …

The most difficult and challenging work we will ever do, is the work on ourselves. To stop focusing on the things of the outside world, and to stop blaming, is to stop being a victim. To accept responsibility for creating the things that we have in our life, is the first step on the path to freedom. When I say “this is my life, I don’t like whats’ in it, and I’m going to change it” things are about to get either much better, or much worse. To try and …

As part of my journey during the past year I have enjoyed reading the work of Dr. Hank Wesselman. I have read all of his books and enjoyed meeting him when he appeared at New Renaissance Book Store here in Portland several months ago.
Dr. Hank’s life and writings are about Shamanism and all that we are missing when we focus our attention on the things of “this world.” Recommended reading for any of you who are really open to learning the truth, about who you really are.
You can check out …

Post traumatic stress disorder is one of the most powerful mental problems that our military faces when we go to war. While the affliction is certainly not only a military problem, the horrors of war cause many cases every year. Here is the story of one man with post traumatic stress disorder and how it happened to him.
When I first joined the military, it was just after the first Desert war in Iraq. Many of my fellow soldiers had just gotten back from the war, and the vast majority of …

In the book; The Master Game, by Robert S. De Ropp, he says “man’s ordinary state of consciousness, his so called waking state, is not the highest level of consciousness of which he is capable. In fact, this state is so far from real awakening that it could  appropriately be called a form of waking sleep.”
I have noticed over the years of working with thousands of addicts and alcoholics that we all seek “more.” There are many addicts who will tell you that their favorite drug is “more”. Or, as my …
